The City is still awaiting word on an appeal by General Motors to reduce the property taxes at the Service Parts Operations facilities. In conjunction with declined revenue sharing funds from the State of Michigan and a general depression in land values, this has left the City in a tough position concerning the budget. As such, it remains unclear what cuts or changes to the budget will be required to balance spending with the reduced revenues. This is a trend from prior years, but 2010 may be the toughest yet.
For the time being, the City Council and City staff are seriously considering a reduction in public safety as a method to drastically reduce expenses. Since this is an ongoing process, please help us out by attending the Council meetings or dropping a line to one of the elected officials or administrative staff. Your feedback is crucial at this uncertain time.
