Department Programs
LIAISON PROGRAM: In partnership with the Swartz Creek Community Schools, the Department employes a full time Police School Liaison Officer. The officer is assigned full-time to the School District and maintains an office at the High School. The officer serves as a resource to school district staff and students. The officer is also available to present safety and law enforcement related programs and lectures to all schools in the district. FANG: The Department also has an officer assigned full time to the Flint Area Narcotics Group, a scecial, couty wide, drug task force. This officer assists the Department, as well as other departments in the county, in investigating possible drug trafficing within the City.
MOTORCYCLE UNIT: The Department has four (4) certified Motor Officers available to mann two department motorcycles. The motorcycles are generally used for traffic enforcement, public apprearances, parades and in some cases, funeral processions. The Motorcycles are available for demonstrations during summer months. SEAT BELT ENFORCEMENT: The Department conducts safety belt compliance programs twice a year during the state wide "Click-It or Ticket-It" campaign. During these campaigns, officers are assigned specifically to the enforce-ment of safety belt requirements. The campaign is advertised well in advance through local radio, television and newspaper articles.
DRUNK DRIVING ENFORCEMENT: The Department also conducts drunk driving enforcement task forces twice each each as part of the state wide 'You Drink, You Drive, You Lose" campaign. Officers are specifically assigned to detect and enforce the drunk driving laws. During this campaign, the officers maintain a "zero tolerance" policy. If you drive drunk, you go to jail! The legal measure of drunk driving in Michigan is .08% blood alcohol content for drivers over 21 years old. Drivers under 21 years old are not permitted to have ANY blood alcohol content while driving. This campaign is also well advertised in advance.
