Swartz Creek Senior Center
The Swartz Creek Area Senior Center, Inc, is a 501c(3) Federal non-profit corporation formed in 1982. The purpose of our organization is to identify and meet the needs of Senior Citizens through programs designed to provide services in the areas of information and referral, education, health screening, nutrition, the arts, recreation, leadership development, personal growth and self-worth, and community involvement. The service area of the Senior Center is the Swartz Creek School District and the Swartz Creek/Gaines United Way Area. Membership is open to all persons who have reached the age of 55 and live within the service area.
The operations of the Senior Center are overseen by a volunteer Board of Trustees consisting of nine members. The Board currently meets monthly and they have hired a Director to oversee the day to day operations of the Center. The Center is funded by a Swartz Creek City millage, United Way, Community Development, VAAA, and donations.
Activities at the Senior Center include lunch, potlucks, line dancing, square dancing, pinochle, bridge, euchre, bingo, yoga, tai chi, exercise classes, and wood carving. There are also numerous special seminars and events, such as AARP Safe Driving courses, Flu Shot Clinics, the spring Rummage Sale, and the Fall Craft Bazaar.
