Swartz Creek School System

LOCATION: The Swartz Creek Community School District is located in western Genesee County, approximately seven miles south of Flint. It encompasses approximately 75 square miles, including the City of Swartz Creek and portions of Flint, Clayton, Mundy, Gaines and Argentine Townships.

SCHOOL TAX RATE: 6.00 mills ($6.00 per $1,000 of state equalized valuation) and 1.8136 mills for the Building and Site Sinking Fund which is used for repairing buildings, grounds and general maintenance.

TRANSPORTATION: The District's buses travel an average of 2,087 miles per day in transporting approximately 1,952 students. There are 65 regular bus routes, two special education routes and six vocational education routes.

SCHOOLS: Five K-5 elementary schools, a middle school, a high school and an alternative school housed 4,234 students in September of 2004. In addition, the District maintains the Child Development Center with programs for children before, during and after the school day. Bus transportation is provided by the District to appropriate schools from the CDC.

The District's curriculum features a comprehensive educational program strong in academic areas and including activities such as music, art, physical education, clubs, athletics, dramatics and student leadership. The Middle School houses an Olympic sized swimming pool that is open year-round to students and community members for recreational use and the swimming teams. The District maintains a full range of special education services. There is also an Indian Education Program funded by a federal grant.
