Downtown Development Authority

The mission of the City of Swartz Creek's Downtown Development Authority is to improve the quality of life and the economic climate in downtown Swartz Creek. The DDA desires to enhance the ability of diverse businesses and residential activities to flourish in the downtown by investing in public infrastructure, improving vehicle and pedestrian circulation, and enhancing the business and residential climate of the area. The end goal of this endeavor is to be the creation of a vibrant downtown that serves the entire city by providing diverse and unique retail, service, entertainment, and residential options for residents.

The DDA was re-activated from a twenty year period of inactivity in late 2004. Since then, the Board has been very active and has already completed a development plan and a tax increment financing plan (Bondable up to $12 million). The Board also has a great working relationship with the City Council, and together they plan on attracting unique, urban residential and retail development to the downtown in the near future. To this end, the City has purchase land and offered a loan to the DDA to begin programming.

The DDA Board is composed of nine members that have in interest in property in the downtown district. The meetings for the Board are held on the second Thursday of each month at 6:00 pm in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 8083 Civic Drive, Swartz Creek, MI. These meetings are open to the public, and all are welcome to attend and speak their minds.
